Independent projects

Curiosity becomes investigation. Investigation becomes something tangible.

Some of the most revealing things I’ve built began outside a formal role.

A tea business featured in Tools of Titans

I did not begin with a plan to become a tea entrepreneur. I followed an interest deeply enough to develop taste, learn the system around it, and find an opportunity to make something better.

The result was a business later featured in Tim Ferriss’s Tools of Titans.

The interesting part of the story is not simply the mention. The project required product judgment, education, sourcing, storytelling, and the work of turning personal conviction into something other people could experience and value.

Building for the desert

Burning Man is an unusual product environment. People arrive with no onboarding. Conditions are punishing. Resources are finite. The experience has to communicate through form, movement, light, sound, and participation—and anyone can walk away.

What interests me is the translation from an evocative idea into a physical system that people immediately understand and want to explore.

Designing for ambitious objectives

I approach major mountain and endurance objectives as decision systems. Routes, terrain, weather, water, permits, transportation, equipment, pacing, and personal capacity all have to work together.

The plan also needs to change when reality supplies new information. That means making assumptions visible, defining decision thresholds, and preserving enough margin to respond well.

This work reflects how I approach products: expose hidden dependencies, design for uncertainty, and make sure the model can survive contact with the real world.
